Nefertiti is primarily recognized for her role in the solidification of a religious transformation during the reign of her husband, Akhenaten, who is credited with establishing a form of henotheism centered around the worship of the sun disc known as Aten. This belief system emphasized the veneration of Aten as the primary deity while not necessarily denying the existence of other gods. Nefertiti's prominence during this period suggests her involvement in promoting this religious shift, which marked a significant departure from the traditional polytheistic practices of ancient Egypt.

The context of her contributions includes artistic representations that often depict her in close communion with Aten, underscoring her role in this spiritual revolution. Thus, the association with henotheism highlights not just a shift in religious practice but also the political and cultural changes that accompanied this pivotal era in ancient Egyptian history.
